Raimondas Pocius (1990, Lithuania)

Loftas Fest, 2013
From: The Checkpoint Project, 2012 – present

Photographer Raimondas Pocius studied visual arts in Vilnus, Lithuania and currently studies at the University of Leiden. His work has been published and exhibited in Lithuania and abroad. The Checkpoint Project is an interactive installation used in various public events since 2012. The door, which takes a photo of the one pressing a doorbell, was continually moved around pubs, clubs, galleries and events to chronologically document the active social class and register the change of emotions and participants during the night. With the idea that the people make the party, and not the location, this project eliminates the surroundings leaving only the attendants of the events in front of the camera. Raimondas eliminates furthermore the control the photographer usually has over his subjects. This results in interesting images of the subjects in their most natural state that can be compared to documentary photography – albeit with a wink.
